Appearance
The design of the T-series cameras has remained almost unchanged since their production began in 2003: compact lens, large display, sliding horizontal protective panel. The differences between the new cameras are in small details.
The body is made of metal panels coated with very high quality varnish. Case color options: purple, green, pink, silver, black. There are only two versions available on the Russian market: black and silver. Fingerprints on the body panels are almost invisible, but the smooth surface of the screen gets dirty very quickly. The build quality is at the highest level.
In the transport position, only the protective panel is visible from the front side, which hides the microphone, flash window, autofocus illuminator and lens.
The display is large and touch-sensitive, but the resolution is low - 230 thousand dots. However, menu fonts and other small elements do not cause irritation, as, for example, in Casio cameras. In addition, the display has good color reproduction and viewing angles are huge.

Pros and cons of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99
appearance, compact size, well-designed menu. very convenient for constantly carrying with you (it really helps me out at university). fast video quality is up to par
A touch screen, the principle of the lens and a cool feature - viewing images with musical accompaniment, and you can also choose the format from nostalgic or cheerful. It’s very cool to show something to friends or girls with sentiments :))))
But everything suits me. Everything is at the highest level - photos and videos. The sensor is vibrant, excellent design, reasonable price. I don’t understand those who are not satisfied with everything. This is not a professional camera. and which camera can you buy better for the same money?
A wonderful camera! For such a baby, everything works great. The pictures are clear. The panorama is interesting. There is a lazy shooting mode - no hassle at all, just click. I was pleased with the ability to support large flash drives - up to 32.
I took my everyday soap dish into my pocket. I’m happy, it’s not a DSLR, of course, but it’s quite worthy (I was lucky to get it for 2999) for my money, quite well.. quickly comes into working mode
The photo quality for such a soap dish turned out to be quite good. At first I also wanted to throw it into the firebox, because... At first the photos were creepy and blurry. I read the instructions, it turned out that it is better to use the options, and not just constantly click on the machine. The panorama is a very cool thing. Plus it is very compact and convenient. On a 40″ LCD TV, the photos look colorful and clear.
Stylish; unusually small, fit into a phone case and just began to live in my bag :-); convenient - there is no retractable lens, it fits in the palm of your hand; simple menu; many functions for such a baby (macro photography from a distance of 10 cm, super portraits - “soft skin” effect, etc.); metal-plastic body; rich color gamut (CCD matrix); red color without distortion and many others - read the detailed instructions (available on the Internet).
Everything is good and convenient. Small, fast, good image quality. The stabilizer and the automatic mode in general are all great. It's not noticeable in your pocket. Panoramas are also good.
beautiful, stylish, many colors small compact This lens is more reliable than a retractable lens Many functions Quite good pictures
The battery is not very good,
when shooting in low light conditions, significant noise appears in the photo,
automatic modes do not always set adequate ISO and give the correct color rendition (but if you turn the knobs, then, in principle, this is fixable)
Small size is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It's compact, but in my hands it gets lost like a magician's :). But this is subjective.
The touch screen gets dirty easily and I would like the battery to last longer.
To charge, you will have to remove the battery and you can accidentally open the battery compartment in the pocket, but it’s not scary, there’s a lock
Disadvantages come out before advantages, you just need to get used to it.
The battery discharges within 2-3 hours. But even this cannot be considered a disadvantage - you can buy a second battery. It is inconvenient to charge in a charger through an outlet.
The latch of the battery compartment is weak; sometimes it unfastens itself in the pocket and the lid opens.
To charge you need to remove the battery - it’s not very convenient.
It makes objects move away a lot, but perhaps this is even good, it’s more exciting.
Doesn't charge from computer
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 - another thin Sony camera with a touch screen

October 18, 2010 |
The next representative of the Sony Cyber-shot T series camera line, like all representatives of the series, sports a large touch screen, a compact wide-format zoom lens and, in addition, the ability to create 14-megapixel images with a maximum sensitivity level of 3200 units in ISO equivalent. At the same time, the camera is based on the familiar 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD matrix. The price of the camera is low, and most importantly, comparable and even lower than that of some competitors.

⇡#Supply set
An introductory sample for the press was provided for testing, the delivery package of which included only a data/video cable with a proprietary connector, a charger, a battery, a lanyard, and a stylus that can be attached to the said lanyard. Commercial delivery samples are equipped with a warranty card, various brochures and a disk with additional software, which is also available on the manufacturer’s website.
⇡#Appearance and ease of use
The design of the T series cameras has remained virtually unchanged since their introduction back in 2003, and the differences between the new cameras were only in small details - otherwise the camera bodies are unchanged: a large display, a compact lens, a sliding horizontal protective panel. The direct ancestors of the camera under test, the Cyber-shot DSC-T77/T700, are extremely similar, so if you don’t look at the tiny details, the differences are almost invisible. However, is there any point in changing a successful shape and a successful design? Most likely not, and, apparently, they think the same way inside the Sony company.
The body is traditionally made of metal panels coated with varnish. A purple version was provided for testing, and there are also pink, green, silver and black versions. But for some reason, on the company’s Russian website, only a couple of color options are presented: black and silver, and it was not possible to find other colors in retail. The quality of the paintwork is very high, and even after lightly wiping with a cloth and abrasive (sand), there are practically no traces left on the surface, so the camera can be safely transported without a case. The only exception is the display, which is still not so resistant, but it also collects scratches extremely slowly even with careless use. Fingerprints on the body panels are almost invisible, but the smooth surface of the screen gets dirty very quickly, and it is incredibly difficult to wipe off fingerprints even with a special microporous cloth - tiny stains always remain. There is not a single complaint about the build quality, and even the sore spot of many sliders - the sliding protective panel - has no flaws.
In the transport position, only the protective panel is visible from the front side, which hides the microphone, flash window, autofocus illuminator and lens.
The entire back side is occupied by a large three-inch touch display.
On top there is a system speaker, a power key, a two-level shutter key, a key for switching to playback mode and a tiny zoom control lever. The latter has been repeatedly criticized for its not very high convenience, but for several years now the zoom control lever has remained unchanged. However, this remark may be based on purely subjective impressions.
At the bottom there is a cover for the battery and memory card compartment, a proprietary connector for connecting a data/video cable, as well as a thread for mounting on a tripod.
The left side surface is empty, and on the right there is only the eye of the fastening cord.
⇡#Display
The display is large and, moreover, touch-sensitive, but its resolution is low - only 230 thousand dots, which is a rather modest figure for an expensive camera, and individual dots are clearly visible to the naked eye. But, despite the low resolution, menu fonts and other small elements do not cause irritation, as, for example, in Casio cameras. In addition, the display has good color rendition, and the viewing angles are absolutely enormous, so it’s convenient to aim at the subject in any conditions.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99 digital camera review
We are testing the new 4K camera Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99 with 30x optical zoom. Read more about the advantages and disadvantages of the model in our review.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99: the ideal compact camera?
At first glance, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99's rich arsenal is very impressive: with a focal length range of 24 to 720 millimeters (film equivalent), the compact camera is suitable for almost any shooting situation imaginable.
Digital zoom (the so-called Clear Image) allows you to increase the upper limit of the focal length range to a very impressive 1440 mm. A lens with an optical 30x zoom, given such a large coverage area, turned out to be quite fast. From an open aperture of f/3.5 at wide-angle to f/6.4 at telezoom, the camera delivers excellent results, proving to help you capture any scene with perfect focus on your main subject.
The camera lens was developed jointly with Zeiss and features optical image stabilization. The Contrast AF system impressed us with its very fast response time in wide-angle mode. When shooting in telezoom mode, the HX99 takes a little longer to focus properly, but given the long focal lengths, this can be forgiven. True, the time interval between turning on the camera and the first frame with autofocus turned on in our test was about three and a half seconds - this is a very long time.
On one positive note, the compact camera boasts popular Eye AF technology. With it, taking portrait photos is not a difficult task at all.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99 image sensor
In the image sensor, the manufacturer relied on already proven technologies: the 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor has a resolution of about 18 megapixels, which is quite enough for many shooting scenarios. The fastest shutter speed of 1/2000 sec reliably catches the fastest movements.
ISO values from 80 to 12800 theoretically make the camera capable of shooting in almost any lighting conditions. However, in practice and in our laboratory measurements, a not so happy picture is observed: there is a decrease in resolution and level of detail, especially in the corners of the image. So already at ISO 100, measurements showed 50 percent of the theoretical maximum at the edge of the frame, which is 2203 line pairs per image height. In the center of the frame, we recorded a good result of 1642 pairs of lines.
Measurements at higher ISO levels (photos taken in low light) were even worse, with corner resolution already falling below 1,000 line pairs at ISO 400. At ISO 1600, for example when shooting indoors, our measurements showed only about 700 line pairs - a very discouraging result. For comparison: in the center of the images, the resolution in this case is almost twice as high.
The situation is even worse when shooting in the telephoto position of the lens; the transmission of small details suffers especially. In short, the Sony HX99 camera can create really sharp shots with good detail only when shooting wide-angle or at a relatively high level of lighting and ISO maximum 800. In principle, megazoom cameras from other manufacturers show the same results.
As for noise, the compact sensor also did not perform in the best way: starting from ISO 400, “noisy” pixels are visible to the naked eye, and above ISO 800, noise in the pictures seriously interferes.
But the Zeiss optics performed quite well: vignetting, both when shooting in wide-angle mode and with telezoom, is kept within strict limits and is almost invisible. Aberrations, both pincushion and barrel aberrations, are not noticeable to the naked eye in photographs taken at any time at any focal length - this is a very good result. The only thing that deserves criticism here is the appearance of chromatic aberrations, which occur exclusively when shooting with maximum zoom: in this case they are very clearly visible and seriously interfere with the perception of the image.
Compact camera with a full set of equipment
The Sony camera tries to compensate for all the previously listed disadvantages of image quality with ease of use and rich equipment. The lightweight and compact model does this well: with a width of about ten centimeters and a thickness of about six, as well as a weight of approximately 250 grams, the HX99 is one of the most convenient and mobile cameras - you can simply carry it with you in your pocket. Despite its small size, the camera fits quite comfortably in the hand; all controls are very ergonomic and located at a sufficient distance from each other.
The 3-inch touchscreen, which rotates 180 degrees forward, and the electronic viewfinder, which can be pulled out when needed, have a high enough resolution and frame rate to create a clear and smooth image of the subject on the screen. Via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC, the HX99 can be connected to a smartphone and other devices.
Finally, hidden away in the typical Sony menu is a plethora of functions that allow the photographer to not only tailor the camera to their own needs, but also to take advantage of many cool, professional options. For example, we will give only the main features of the camera: panorama shooting, continuous shooting at a speed of 10 frames per second and a length of about 140 frames, 12 different scene modes with recognition of 44 different scene groups, and even a zoom assistant.
All this requires a lot of energy and quickly exhausts battery resources. Its capacity is only 1240 mAh, which is unfortunately too small. In our test, the HX99's battery was completely drained after taking about 250 images. It can only be charged via USB, and the NP-BX1 battery charger will have to be purchased separately.
Video recording on Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99
Sony Cyber-shot equipment complements the excellent video mode. UHD resolution is available at up to 30 frames per second, Full HD at up to 120 frames. Fans of slow motion shooting will appreciate the camera's extremely high speed of 1000 frames per second with an interpolated resolution of 720p, while the video is written to a microSD card.
The camera has another very practical option: a proxy function that, in addition to high-resolution video, also stores low-resolution video footage. This makes video editing much easier, especially on mid-range computers. For vloggers, the HX99 camera is only conditionally suitable, because it does not have connectors for an external microphone or headphones.
Conclusion
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX99 camera aroused our great interest: a 30x zoom in a compact body combined with a powerful sensor makes it truly versatile. The image quality spoiled the overall impression, but it is compensated by the rich equipment of the model.
For those photographers who value portability more than high resolution and level of detail, we still recommend taking a closer look at this camera. And if you agree to give up a touch screen and are quite happy with a regular display, then pay attention to a similar camera Sony HX95 - it is about 50 euros cheaper than the HX99. If image quality is your main criterion, then we advise you to take a closer look at the more advanced RX100 series from Sony, however, the price of these cameras will be much higher.

Sony recently announced the release of a new digital camera, the Cyber-shot DSC-T99. The weight of the new product is 105 grams (not taking into account the weight of the memory card and battery). The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 camera is housed in a thin body; its overall dimensions are 93 x 55.6 x 16.8 millimeters. The new camera from Sony comes in several bright colors. The Sony DSC-T99 camera is equipped with the proprietary BIONZ image processor, as well as a 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD sensor. In addition, the DSC-T99 camera is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with four times optical zoom, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, and a three-inch touchscreen LCD display. Captured videos and photographs can be stored on internal memory (the volume of which is 32 megabytes), as well as on removable drives of MMC, SD, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, etc. standards. The Sony DSC-T99 camera allows you to take JPEG photographs with a maximum resolution of 4320×3240 pixels. The distinctive features of the new product include the fact that it will be possible to shoot HD video in MPEG-4 format with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. Among the advantages of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 digital camera is its incredibly ultra-compact, beautiful body that fits into any bag pocket. The Sony DSC-T99 camera is equipped with a Sweep Panorama mode; this mode makes it possible to take a high-speed series of photographs at the moment when the photographer holds the camera from top to bottom. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T99 digital camera is equipped with a bright, clear LCD screen that makes it possible to frame each photo as accurately as possible. |
